Background

  • BCR - 2006 mandates the Blood Tribe, Tribal Government Department to establish the "Kainai Peacemaking Center" as part of the overall Blood Tribe Justice Initiative. (2011 projected date)
  • Peacemaking program will accompany this facility.

 

Peacemaking Program begins

  • January 2009 - Blood Tribe Chief and Council appoints the "Peacemakers"
  • Ten community members along with four senior advisors were appointed.
  • Four elders have been working with the the justice working group since its inception as advisors.
  • Peacemakers were consulted with and have since been instrumental in the articulation of Kainai Peacemaking.
  • Blood Tribe will utilize it's own philosophy, customs and values for the Peacemaking process rather than adopt European or any other tribe's system.

 

KPP Development

  • February 6th, 2009 - Supervisor, Billy Wadsworth and Researcher, Sherry Tailfeathers were hired.
  • March 16th, 2009 - Administrative Assistant, Debbie Melting Tallow was hired.
  • This secures the administrative body for the Kainai Peacemaking Program.
